Consultation with Children and Young People

As part of the consultation process, and in fulfilment of the Terms of Reference, the Protecting Victoria’s Vulnerable Children Inquiry met with children and young people about their experiences with out of home care and related services.

The Inquiry worked closely with the CREATE Foundation Victoria to design and conduct focus groups with young people with these experiences. Special care was taken to develop an ethical approach to the consultation and the focus groups, which were held in various metropolitan and regional locations. In addition, CREATE assisted with developing a child-friendly online survey to gather the views of as many children and young people as possible.

The CREATE Foundation’s Final Report is available here (PDF, 450KB).

A summary is also included in Volume 3 of the Report of the Protecting Victoria’s Vulnerable Children Inquiry.

The consultation with children and young people was an important part of the broader process that included Public Sittings, visits to organisations and consultations with the workforce.

The Inquiry is grateful to the children and young people who participated in the various consultation activities either through direct meetings or via the online survey. Their participation has helped the Inquiry develop its views on the requirements of a system focused on a child’s needs.
